While news channels all over America report their year in reviews and the hottest resolutions, I realized that they are missing an important note – aren’t we supposed to take this time to think of all that 2015 will bring? Instead of looking back, let’s take a few moments to look forward. What are you looking forward to experiencing in the year 2015?
New Year’s Resolutions – Why Wait to Make a Change?
I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. I used to. In fact, each year I would think long and hard about what I wanted to change, write it on paper, tell others, and at the first of the year take the steps towards accomplishing my resolution. My resolution was always the same; to lose weight or get more done in a day. However, it wasn’t much of a resolution since I had made it my daily goal. Sure, I can choose a different resolution such as less time on social media or give each person I talk to a complement, but shouldn’t I do those things anyways? Why wait until the beginning of a new year to make these changes? Instead, let’s strive to achieve our goals each day. With that said, instead of establishing another “New Year’s resolution”, I’m going to share the experiences I am looking forward to in the year 2015.
Since 2014 was jammed packed with travel, this year my husband, Adam, and I plan to experience something a little different. Sure, we will travel as often as we can and I will definitely share those experiences with you on my social media sites and on this blog, but we have decided to start a new chapter in our life. As many of you know, we recently moved from San Diego, California to Green Bay, Wisconsin to live a simple life with our family. Such a drastic move will bring many experiences that we are looking forward to in the coming year. To point out a few, I’ve listed some of those experiences below:
New Business Ventures
Adam and I have many hobbies; however, we each have hobbies that dominate much of our free time. As for Adam, he went to school at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and earned a bachelors degree in communications with emphasis in graphic design and photography. His love for photography continued to strengthen after school. Over the years, he has captures amazing moments and places. Adam’s gallery is filled with photos from the mountain ranges in Montana, countryside in Canada, beaches in California, snow-covered land in Wisconsin and much more. We are very excited to see the continued success of his photography as his clientele continues to grow and his collection of photographs increase. To view his gallery, please visit www.adamdax.photography.
As for myself, I love staying busy. Even when I set time aside to relax, I am busy creating something with my hands. I enjoy crocheting beanies, ear warmers, cowls and blankets. I also enjoy making year-round wreaths. As of now, my products are sold in some stores and at craft fairs in the greater Green Bay area, but I am very excited to watch my products grow in popularity.
Preparing For a Family
Adam and I are very careful about what we do. We are planners and leave very little to chance. With that said we have thought long and hard and feel that it is time to begin the planning process of starting a family. For this reason, I am very excited to introduce a new category to my blog titled Family Planning. This category will share our planning process, experiences and helpful information we find along our journey. I am very excited to add the family category to this blog as I have always said that I started this blog to share what matters most to me; family, travel and self improvement.
Community Service
I love giving back to the community. I enjoy gathering with a group to create goods or donate our time to helping others. When we lived in California, Adam and I were active in the church, VFW and additional community service through work; however, now that we have moved to Wisconsin, we have a new community to serve. We are very excited to become members of the American Legion, Luxemburg Chamber, church and much more. I encourage everyone to donate a little time each year to help others whether it’s serving food at a luncheon to benefit a cause, running a 5K or picking up trash at the beach with a group. Even an hour of your time makes a grand difference and impacts those around you.
Family Activities
One of the many reasons Adam and I moved to Wisconsin is to enjoy time with family. Our family does much together. In fact it is rare to go a few days without seeing one another. I am looking forward to continue our traditional Sunday gatherings. Whether we gather at my in-laws or at a restaurant, it’s a fun time. In the past, we would gather to make homemade pizza together; a family activity I hope to bring back in 2015. My father in-law would make the dough and we would all pitch in to create our pizza to share later. Some of us got a little too creative, but it was a great time. And since we live in Wisconsin, we never miss a Packer game. Family gatherings to watch a game is much fun and the house gets a bit louder with the excitement of the game. Even though I’m not much of a football fan, I love gathering to watch the games and am looking forward to continue this tradition. Needless to say, we are all excited and hopeful for another Packer Super Bowl.
Outdoor Activities
I know I said that this year will dial down on the traveling, but Wisconsin is an exciting place to live with many outdoor activities. I am looking forward to driving to different parts of the state to experience these activities. What I love about Wisconsin is the change in seasons and with the change of seasons come different activities. During the winter we can enjoy a beer while ice fishing, create a beautiful snow angle, cross country ski and much more. The summer brings many more activities; such as kayaking, camping, swimming in the lake and the town/county fairs. However, nothing beats the fall when the leaves turn and there is a chill in the air. Adam and I love sipping a cup of coffee and enjoying many of the activities organized in Green Bay. I’m looking forward to finding out what’s on the calendar for 2015. In the upcoming year, I am also excited to share our experiences in Door Country and the Apostle Islands. Both locations are beautiful with many activities and yummy food to enjoy.
