When life gives you lemons you make lemonade; right? Wrong!
When life gives you lemons, you’re given an opportunity to create something new. For example, if someone were to give you a blank sheet of paper, what would you do with it? You may ask why they gave you the sheet of paper and do as instructed. Why not think outside the box and allow your creative mind to share how unique you are. When I am given an empty page, I fill it with words that share my imagination and my ideas. When my sister is given an empty page, she fills it with beautiful drawings and paintings using whatever tools within reach. When my husband is given an empty page, he fills it with codes and web designs that will introduce a new product to the world.
Everyone is given an empty page and it is our job to fill it using our unique talents. For some, it’s a recipe, an origami bird, words of advice, a love letter, etc. For some it’s just an empty page. Choose to see the opportunity to share your unique self with the world by turning the lemons or empty page into something that will change this world.
I decided to write about this subject because I recently attended a class on sales. At the start of the class, the instructor asked everyone to introduce ourselves, where we work, where we are from and asked us to share one interesting thing about ourselves. I was very excited to share my interesting thing and found it hard to choose which interesting thing to share. However, the majority of the class found this task challenging and expressed that there is nothing interesting about them. Too often the class sat in silence while my fellow classmates searched for something interesting to share about themselves. I felt sad for these people whom fail to see their worth.
Everyone is interesting and talented. Everyone has experienced things that others have not. The people that fail to see this in themselves either choose to let the lemons sit on the counter and perish or choose to make lemonade because that’s what’s expected or ideal.
I urge everyone to discover your worth and believe in it wholeheartedly. Be eager to share your worth with the world. People are hungry to see new talent and the irony is that we all possess something amazing. I’ve been blessed to have met people who share their talents with the world:
1. A classmate that can solve a rubrics cube in less than 45 seconds.
2. A friend that can sing, play guitar and move her audience to tears and laughter.
3. A sister who can put pencil to paper and let her drawings speak for her.
4. A fellow veteran who can make anyone laugh with his jokes.
5. A teacher who can get me excited about a three hour math class.
6. A friend who can cook to perfection any dish asked of her.
7. A mother with a smile that can make a child feel that everything will be okay.
8. A husband that won’t let a day go by without letting me know how whole his heart is.
Don’t be afraid to turn the lemons into ornaments, small hats, potpourri, or a piece of art. Use your creative mind. We all have one. Use that creative mind to showcase your talents. It doesn’t matter whether your talent is found in kindness, love, playing a musical instrument, building structures, teaching others or playing a sport. You’re a talented being. Please share it with the world. We are all waiting for you to showcase YOU.
