Adam and I find fulfillment in exploratory taste among other things. While we strive to keep our weight and health in check, we battle our temptations to try everything on the menu at new venues. However, we are always willing to trade an extra half hour on the spin bike for the unnecessary appetizer, extra serving and added calories from dessert. Needless to say, among our addiction to travel, Adam and I are foodies. If we aren’t dreaming of our next interesting dish to try in our own kitchen, we are dreaming of the dish we will explore in another’s.
The Traveling Chef – Christopher Mangless
For Adam’s birthday, he was given the task of choosing how he wanted to fill his day. With no surprise, he chose to fill his tummy at a new venue he heard about from a co-worker. You may not have heard of Three Three Five as it is tucked away, almost invisible to the public on North Broadway in Green Bay, WI. After further research of the venue, intrigue created excitement and anticipation to learn more about the chef and the venue. Come to find that Three Three Five houses a single talent; The Traveling Chef – Christopher Mangless. Mangless has shared his talent with many creative and smart minded individuals whose names are shared in nationwide gossip and, like Adam and I, seek the company of those who think outside the box.
Mangless defiantly knows how to leave the box far behind and push the boundaries of delicate dishes. While his tagline, The Traveling Chef, shares his unpredictable approach to his trade, he promises to share his food with those eager for change once a week at Three Three Five during his Sunday brunch. Lucky for Adam, Mangless was scheduled to serve brunch the day before his birthday. Note: Each Sunday brunch is unique as Mangless puts together a new menu each meal. We made reservations at the last minute and were told we were lucky to get in as the seats fill quickly. We arrived a little early and were greeted at the door by a server who suggested to take our coats and showed us to our sets. Another server introduced herself soon after and provided us water from a glass bottle. I have to say, Adam and I have had our fair share of terrible servers, but the men and women that work at Three Three Five are kind, prompt and informative.
The Menu at Three Three Five
We took a few moments to browse through the menu to become familiar with the unique dishes and drinks. The fancy wording let our imaginations flow. Fighting the urge to order everything off the menu, we decided to share an appetizer of various breads and toppings and some fruity drinks. Adam ordered a fancy French toast dish topped with coconut, a perfect amount of homemade whipped cream and additional pleasant seasonings. As for myself, I ordered an egg truffle dish. The dish looked simple, but the taste complex. My dish came with sourdough bread, a butter mix and jam. I do not like adding butter or jam to my bread, but it was so delicious I think I cleared the dishes it came in, with the help of Adam, of course. A quick glance around the other tables introduced additional creativity among the dishes shared with the fellow guests. The looks on the others faces shared that Mangless has outdone himself once again.
The Venue, Three Three Five
The venue itself is simple and cozy with an elegant feel. The brick walls deliver a sense of calm and the natural light from the front window sends an intimate glow. Since there are very few closed doors or rooms in the venue, guests can watch Mangless work his magic in the kitchen with the help of his assistants. I have to say, it’s entertaining and interesting how he pairs and assembles the dishes in an unoriginal way.
Three Three Five Sunday Brunch Prices $$
Now, we expected to pay a good amount for our dishes considering the look and feel of the venue and the elegant dishes and drinks we received. Surprisingly, the dishes were favorably priced. I believe my egg truffle dish was priced the highest at $18. Not bad! We walked away with full tummies, happy thoughts, good memories and the expectation to return for just under $60.
Basic Information for Three Three Five
I highly recommend making a reservation for the next Sunday brunch at Three Three Five. A schedule is listed on the website at www.threethreefive.com or you can request seats by email: hello@threethreefive.com or call: 920-431-1111. Adam and I will definitely be back to try Mangless’s new menu and maybe set up a time to take part in one of his cooking classes. I can always learn some extra tips and tricks in my own kitchen; plus, cooking classes are a blast.
Let us know what you think of Three Three Five and please share the menu options. It’s an admirable trait in a chef who changes his menu with each crowd. He has an innovative mind that doesn’t stop and an unending passion for taste.
