We recently took a trip to San Diego to visit family. Since we traveled with our one year old, we were in need of a high chair during our stay. My grandmother was kind enough to find a friend who allowed us to use her high chair since it was not needed and sitting in storage. At first glance of the Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair, I was a little nervous to allow our daughter to sit in it. She tends to move around a lot in her high chair at home; always kicking her feet and waving her hands. Was this chair going to be sturdy enough for our active little girl? Nope! Not really.
Small straps were installed to keep the child on the seat; however, no matter the effort of keeping her strapped in, the straps continued to fall off her shoulders. Her little bottom had little to no extra room on the small seat and the base of the chair looked like it lacked proper support. Needless to say, when she used the seat, we would sit very close to her and monitor the straps and how active she was while in the chair.
I wouldn’t recommend this high chair because it provides very little room for growth, but most importantly, it wasn’t as safe as other high chairs available for the same price. Take the time to look around for a high chair that will grow with your child and maybe last years so that each of your children can use it. I recommend a high chair with the following qualities:
- Easy to clean materials – preferably vinyl
- Adjustable seat and height
- Base tray with removable feeding tray
- Sturdy
- Smooth operating buttons for adjusting
